Abstract | Based on nationally rural household panel data from 2003 to 2012, this paper examines theoretically and empirically the effects of agriculture productivity improvement on the farmers’ human capital. The results show that rural families who suffer the improvement of agriculture productivity have more preference of education investment, but the improvement of agriculture productivity has a weak effect on the human capital of household head. Comparing with the household head who works in non-agricultural production, the improvement of agriculture productivity leads a larger increase in the human capital of household head who engages in agriculture production. In addition, the improvement of agriculture productivity has a positive and significant effect on the investment of the number of participating in training and other culture service. This conclusion suggests that it is important to offer preferential treatment in improving the agriculture productivity and increasing education investment in rural area. |
