Abstract | Since the adoption of reform and opening-up policy, the global-production-network (GPN) centrality of China’s manufacturing industry has been rising, however its international specialization status (ISS) has been low, how to improve ISS through adjusting the strategy of embedding in the global-production-network is worthy of study. This paper incorporates GPN position into the framework of intra-product specialization, and finds that the GPN position can influence the ISS through the mediation of producer service. Based on the world input output data from 1999 to 2011, this paper calculates the GPN position and ISS of China’s manufacturing industry, the empirical results show that: the rising of GPN centrality and the declining of GPN restriction can promote the ISS, but the interaction effect is negative; producer service is the mediation channel of GPN position influencing ISS, and the advanced producer service’s mediation effect is far less than the non-advanced producer service’s; the influences of China’s manufacturing industry’s position in Asia-Pacific and Euro production network on ISS are quite different. |
