Abstract | There is strong community network in Chinese labor market based on kinship, geographical relationship and common experience. On one hand, it provides the channel of information transmission and acts as credible commitment. On the other hand, it causes nepotism and labor market segmentation. We construct a regional level index of community network using CGSS2008, which is matched to the marketization index designed by Fan Gang and Chinese industrial enterprises database. Using this dataset, we find that the impact of community network on firm efficiency changes from positive to negative with the increasing of the level of marketization. This is especially true for its role as recommendation than information transmission. |
