AbstractBased on a theoretical model, we use the China General Social Survey data (CGSS2010) to perform a rigorous study on the relationship between the trust in government and social trust. The results show that, the level of trust in government is an important factor determining the level of social trust; As specific divisions of the government are considered, improving the level of trust in the court could dramatically reduce the level of social distrust, and enhancing the level of trust in central government and in the army could significantly increase the level of social trust. Therefore, constructing the credibility of the government and improving the trust in government is a feasible way to improve social trust.
